Walt Disney Pictures has unleashed the third trailer for its 3D tentpole pic, ‘TRON: Legacy’, and it features lots of eye-popping visuals and additional story details.
It’s Tron Tuesday and we all know what that means: Walt Disney Pictures has released new material in promotion of this winter’s highly-anticipated, 3D blockbuster event, TRON: Legacy.
The third trailer for TRON: Legacy is now online and it features plenty of yet-unseen and action-packed footage from the film (for those that missed TRON Night, that is), as well as additional details concerning the film’s plot.
Here is the official TRON: Legacy synopsis, in case you’d forgotten:
Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade—a signal that could only come from his father—he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years.
With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe—a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.
This new TRON: Legacy preview expands on that basic summary a bit and also reveals the significant visual difference between the presentation of the real world and the dark, blue-gray cyber realm of “The Grid.”
Watch the third TRON: Legacy trailer below and see what we mean:
We’ve no doubt that the dazzling CGI and visuals of TRON: Legacy will look all the better in 3D up on the big screen, though the villainous Clu 2.0/CGI young Jeff Bridges still looks a bit silly. All of the actors, especially Hedlund, look to deliver rather subdued performances in the film (which could become a bit annoying after awhile) and the dialogue so far sounds tolerable, but far from fantastic.
Most fans expect TRON: Legacy to deliver on the visual/FX side of things, and so far it looks to do just that. We’ve still got about six weeks left until this pic actually hits theaters – does this trailer make you all the more (or less) excited to see the final product?
TRON: Legacy will hit 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters in the U.S. on December 17th, 2010.
