A full ‘Cars 2′ teaser trailer has been released and it focuses largely on Mater’s secret spy mission with the very British Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine).
Sir Michael Caine didn’t join Leonardo DiCaprio on a subconscious heist in Inception, but he’ll participate (albeit, as a British sports car) in a very different kind of espionage in Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2.
A full teaser trailer has been released for the Cars sequel, which looks to up the racing action, automobile-related jokes, and screentime for Larry the Cable Guy’s animated alter ego, the tow truck Mater.
Cars 2 revolves around Mater and his spiffy red racing comrade, Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson), as they leave behind the dusty town of Radiator Springs to compete overseas in the World Grand Prix, the winner of which will earn the title of “World’s Fastest Car.” Mater’s life becomes all the more complicated when he gets mixed up in a top-secret mission with snazzy spy Finn McMissile (Caine) and must attempt to help his old pal Lightning out while being pursued by an array of villainous vehicles that are armed and ready to destroy any car that gets in their way.
The “North By Northwest + explosives + cars” subplot is the main focus of the full teaser trailer for the (literally) high octane Cars sequel, which can be viewed below (courtesy of Yahoo! Movies):
Disney/Pixar released some concept art for Cars 2 about a month ago and it offered an early look at the various international settings in which the family-friendly adventure will take place. Pixar’s work is always meticulously detailed, so it’s a safe bet to say that the exotic locales like London and Paris will look all the more beautiful when they’re realized in computer-animated form.
While many critics consider Cars to one of Pixar’s weaker entries, the film was still overall well received, did significant business at the box office, and was a merchandising cash cow. Cars 2 should be an improvement on its predecessor in terms of style and action, while still featuring a plot that feels fresh and provides enough entertainment for both kid and adult moviegoers.
Cars 2 rolls into 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters in the U.S. on June 24th, 2011.
